MARKET GARDEN ASSISTANT
Job Opportunity - Market Garden Assistant
Muriel Shores Farm, located just 20 minutes from downtown Kenora, is looking for one seasonal, full time field hand for the 2025 growing season. Remuneration will be $20-$25 hour based on experience.
Responsibilities of this position include:

Field preparation
-
Weeding
-
Seedling care
-
Planting
-
Harvesting and cleaning produce

Market set-up/ assisting with markets

Potentially helping with yard work and small infrastructure projects around the farm
Qualifications include:
-
Some knowledge of growing/gardening (although training and mentorship in all areas will be included)
-
Interest in learning about and working in a sustainable, no-till growing system
-
A positive attitude, good work ethic, and strong verbal communication skills
-
Must have transportation to and from the farm (no public transportation available)
-
Be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, rain, etc)
-
Physical ability to bend, push wheelbarrows, carry boxes of produce (up to 50lbs), and do other physical labour
-
Able to work in a team environment as well as performing tasks independently after the training period is complete

Available to work Monday to Friday approx 8am to 5pm with some flexibility as needed

MARKET GARDEN INTERNSHIP
Internship Opportunity - Market Garden Apprentice
Are you interested in learning how to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers in an environmentally friendly and sustainable system? Muriel Shores Farm, located just outside Kenora, ON, is looking for a farm intern (or a couple) for the upcoming growing season. This internship position will run from approximately May to October 2025. We are offering room and board, including meals and a stipend of $200/week, in return for approximately 35-40 hours/week labour on our regenerative, no-till vegetable farm. Field preparation (moving compost and wood chips, digging, etc)

Weeding

Seedling starting and care, greenhouse management

Transplanting and seeding

Harvesting and cleaning produce

Market set-up/ assisting with markets

Potentially helping with yard work and small infrastructure projects around the farm (mowing grass, fence repair, irrigation lines)
Qualifications include:

Some knowledge of growing/gardening/small scale farming would be an asset (although training and mentorship in all areas will be included)

Interest in learning about and working in a sustainable, no-till growing system

A positive attitude, good work ethic, and strong verbal communication skills

Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, rain, etc)

Available to work flexible hours as needed

If interested in room and board candidates will need to be willing and able to live in a camper trailer (with electricity and running water), in a community environment with a few other families nearby (including children and dogs). Shared meals will be offered a few times a week along with the use of a camper kitchen and necessary supplies.
